In Nova Scotia Child Care facilities are Regulated programs which are licensed or guided by provincial legislation, regulations, and policies to support high-quality care.
A combination of provincial and federal funding, including the CWELCCA, provides support for these spaces in various ways. Under Nova Scotia’s publicly managed and funded system, regulated childcare is delivered by commercial and not-for-profit service providers.
Childcare centres are licensed and provincially funded programs offering services for children, infants to school-age, dependent on the needs of families. The province and CWELCCA financially support service providers and families through grants, including wage support, inclusion funding, infant incentives and fee reductions.
Nova Scotia also has eight licensed service providers who have opted out of government funding.
These programs follow licensing requirements for childcare environments, but no funding is provided. Programs remain eligible for provincial funding programs if desired.
