Capable, Confident, and Curious: Nova Scotia's Early Learning Curriculum Framework (NSELCF) guides the practice of educators and pedagogical leaders who work with young children in early learning and child care programs, from birth to age eight.

The NSELCF, which is implemented in all regulated early learning and child care programs, licensed centre-based programs, regulated family home child care programs, and Pre-primary programs is based on the following:

  • Children are recognized as constructors of knowledge.
  • Educators are researchers and collaborators.
  • Children's lives are shaped by their families, communities, language and culture.
  • Early learning environments are inclusive and reflect, and respond to, children's interests, ideas, and curiosities.
  • Play is integral to well-being and learning.
  • Learning is holistic.
