A career in early childhood education provides a range of opportunities to work with young children from birth to 12 years of age, and their families.

Classification and Professional Development
ECEs who work in provincially funded licensed child care are required to hold an ECE Classification which is regulated through the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
ECEs are required to take 30 hours of professional development every three years to maintain their Classification.
Salaries
Salaries for ECEs working in Nova Scotia’s Pre-primary program are set through the Regional Centres for Education and Conseil scolaire acadien provincial (CSAP) across the province and can vary depending on scope of practice, and region.
Unionized centre wage scale changes are applied to employees through their collective agreement. Centres align with the wage scale.
